Assessment
At Dubai Arabian American Private School (DAAS), we offer a variety of internal and external assessments which help all stakeholders better understand the strengths and areas of improvement towards students’ learning and college and career readiness. Assessments at DAAS aligns with the US curriculum (specific to the State of California), KHDA, MOE and consider National Agenda targets.
Internal Assessments at DAAS
- Benchmarks
- Administered three times a year
- The purpose of the assessment is to allow teachers to determine students' individual strengths, areas of improvement, knowledge, and skills prior to instruction. It is primarily used to identify student starting points and to guide lesson and curriculum planning.
- These assessments are not included in the Report Card.
- Learning checks
- These assessments can be in a form of quizzes, formative assessments, mini projects, etc.
- These assessments are included in the Report Card.
- Tests
- These assessments can be in a form of unit checks, projects, chapter check, summative assessments, etc.
- For high school there is also a Final Semester Exam (administered at the end of each Semester).
- These assessments are included in the Report Card.
External Assessments at DAAS
- Measurement of Academic Progress (MAP)
- Administered three times a year.

- Cognitive Ability Test (CAT4)
- Administered at registration or every 2 years.
- This assessment is not included in the Report Card.
- This assessment informs the school about the cognitive potential of your child and their strengths in learning patterns.

- Arabic International Benchmark Test (IBT)
- Administered once in a year to native Arabic speakers.
- This assessment is not included in the Report Card.

- TIMSS
- This is the assessment that is named in the UAE National Agenda goals and holds school’s accountable to supporting the UAE in its vision.
- This assessment is not included in the Report Card.
- Only students in G4 and 8 take the assessment. Students are selected randomly by the assessment publisher and it is taken every 3 years.

- PISA
- This is the assessment that is named in the UAE National Agenda goals and holds school’s accountable to supporting the UAE in its vision.
- This assessment is not included in the Report Card.
- Only students that are 15 years old take the assessment. Students are selected randomly by the assessment publisher and it is taken every 3 years.

- PIRLS

In conjunction with earning US high school credits these assessments may be required for university admissions and MOE equivalency:

- EMSAT (If you need to know more about this assessment, please Click Here)
- DAAS will provide preparation classes for assessments to ensure that each student graduating from DAAS has the required scores at an additional cost after school. Students should score 450 (minimum) in SAT Math and 5.0 (minimum) in IELTS.
- These assessments are mandatory to get the equivalency from MoE and be eligible to get the high school diploma in UAE. All government universities require an equivalency to be accepted in their programs.
- DAAS registers students in EmSAT (Emirates Standardized Test) as they are mandatory to be done by students studying their 12th grade in UAE to be eligible to be admitted to governmental universities. Payment for EmSAT is the responsibility of the parent.
